Specialised Finance

NIBC has a long-standing track record as long term lender in a select number of clearly defined asset classes. This expertise and knowledge is anchored within Specialised Finance, which is home to the following teams:

Origination
NIBC has organised its Specialised Finance activities around six asset classes: Corporate Lending, Leveraged Finance, Ship Financing, Infrastructure & Renewable Financing and Commercial Real Estate Financing. In all six asset classes NIBC structures, arranges and underwrites debt financing for its clients. We offer products across the capital structure including senior debt, junior debt, second lien, mezzanine and payment-in-kind (PIK) financing, depending on the needs of the client.

Structuring
The structuring team is the liaison between the origination and distribution teams. It is responsible for structuring highly sophisticated transactions for clients as well as securitisation transactions, fund structuring and tax structuring.
The structuring team works closely together with the Merchant Banking teams and the Specialised Finance teams to detect client needs and to offer what the markets demand. The team also cooperates very closely with Treasury to satisfy the bank's funding needs.
The team deploys various risk transfer techniques (including securitisation, syndication and credit derivative technology) to manage our portfolios. We structure individual (large) loans and portfolios comprising of more loans into risk participations that can be transferred to a broad range of investors.

Distribution
The distribution team is the integrated distribution platform of NIBC. It coordinates all distribution activities and combines investor appetite with our origination network and structuring capabilities. It focuses on the distribution of loans, structured products and funds.

Portfolio Management
Our portfolio management team works closely with our coverage bankers within Merchant Banking and origination teams within Specialised Finance to monitor borrower performance and spot cross selling opportunities. In order to do so, clients are visited frequently during the term of a loan and there is intensive cooperation with other departments within NIBC. The team proactively monitors credit quality and covenant compliance of borrowers and reviews the status of assets provided as collateral.

Retail Markets
Our retail markets activities are focused on residential mortgage origination in the Netherlands and Germany. Origination takes place on the basis of white labeling through a number of distribution partners, such as insurance companies, mortgage chains and packagers.

Leveraged Finance Markets
Leveraged Finance Markets manages our Leveraged Loans securitisation platform (North Westerly), acting as collateral manager for these programmes. Throughout the life of a managed securitisation - typically five to seven years - Leveraged Finance Markets actively manages the portfolio composition in order to maintain its qualitative profile and risk/reward balance.
